Description of the artwork
In Alice, Eugenio Franzò presents a solitary figure emerging from a textured, layered landscape. The artwork explores choice and transition: the protagonist's silhouette is enveloped in a garment that seems to merge with the surrounding environment, symbolizing an indissoluble bond between the individual and their spiritual or inner journey.
The composition is dominated by a contrast between earth and sky. The warm, earthy tones of the lower section, enriched by the use of burlap which lends an archaic tactility, represent the roots and tangibility of sacrifice. In contrast, the upper section opens into lighter, more frayed areas, suggesting an opening towards a metaphysical dimension or a memory still in the making.
The figures in the background, barely suggested and almost spectral, serve as silent witnesses to the protagonist's passage. The rapid strokes and layers of color create a visual tension that evokes the silence of meditation and the strength of vocation.
The artwork addresses the theme of the transformation of identity: the protagonist becomes the symbol of anyone standing on the threshold of a new beginning, suspended between the memory of what has been and the promise of what will become.
