Description of the artwork
In Architetture del Buio, Baldo Ingrassia delves deeper into his exploration of material abstraction, pushing towards an almost geometric dimension of chaos. The artwork emerges from a nocturnal background, where the depth of the black is not a void, but a space pregnant with possibilities and invisible structures that begin to manifest.
Unlike other more fluid compositions, straight lines and perspective angles appear here — resembling the skeletons of buildings or tables — suggesting the human mind's attempt to rationalize and bring order to the unknown. Fragments of ochre, green, and red cluster into vibrant nuclei, while splashes of white and yellow create a dynamism reminiscent of neuronal activity or the sudden flash of inspiration.
The stylized figures, barely sketched on the right, seem like silent observers of this mental construction. They represent the individual inhabiting the space of the idea, moving between the invisible walls of their own thoughts. The light, distributed in small globes and thin filaments, acts like a star map guiding the eye through the complexity of the pictorial texture.
The artwork explores the theme of the boundary between the solidity of matter and the evanescence of imagination. It is an invitation to reflect on how we construct our reality: one brick of memory at a time, immersed in the mystery of that which has not yet been fully revealed.
