Description of the artwork
In What Fire Remembers, Andrea Gatti constructs a tactile and symbolic vision, where the surface seems to tell an ancient story of tensions, fractures, and rebirths. The composition is dominated by an intense, curved, and pulsating orange band that crosses the space diagonally like a luminous scar. Its irregular, almost burnt texture suggests a primordial energy that has never completely faded.
Around this incandescent line, thin filaments develop, like veins or organic extensions, that seem to emerge from the material itself. They are traces of an invisible movement, of a vital impulse that tries to expand beyond the limit imposed by the surface. The dark background, marked by cracks and fractures, introduces a dimension of memory: what has been broken is not hidden, but becomes an integral part of the visual narrative.
In the upper part, thin vertical green lines break the drama of the black, like a call to the possibility of regeneration. They are not decorative elements: they are clues, openings, glimpses that suggest that even in the most compromised material there can be a starting point. Gatti does not represent fire as destruction, but as an archive of what survives.
