Description of the artwork
In Mio Figlio, Claudio Giulianelli returns to the heart of his poetic vision: the theater of existence as a place where the real and the symbolic merge in an embrace. The female figure wearing a headpiece with red spikes — who has already appeared in other works by the artist as an archetypal presence and guardian — holds a small Pulcinella in a two-tone yellow and blue costume, with a smiling and innocent face. The gesture is that of a mother, or of a soul that recognizes something of its own in that mask: a son, an alter ego, a part of itself that has never stopped playing.
The woman's gaze is directed elsewhere, far away, like someone carrying the sweet weight of an emotional responsibility that goes beyond the present time. The background stretches out into an open landscape — the golden field, the sky crossed by clouds — which Giulianelli uses as a neutral and universal theater, capable of amplifying the inner dimension of the scene.
The warm palette of reds and yellows, contrasted with the blue of the sky and the puppet's costume, creates a chromatic balance of great refinement. Mio Figlio is a work that speaks of connection, of transmission, of that silent tenderness with which one cherishes what they love. The mask is not a deception: it is the truest face of one who has not yet learned to hide.
