Description of the artwork
In Downtown Bologna, Ivan Cagnani reinterprets the urban essence of the city through a bold and saturated chromatic lens. The composition delves into the verticality of a historic alleyway, where the buildings are not merely structures, but theatrical backdrops vibrating with an almost electric light.
The artwork captures the soul of Bologna — traditionally known as "la Rossa" — by exaggerating its warm tones to the very edges of pop abstraction. The intense reds and burnt oranges of the buildings clash with the depth of a cobalt blue sky wedged between the rooftops, creating a chromatic contrast that evokes the vital and pulsating energy of the city center. The digital technique fragments the light, transforming the wall surfaces into a tactile texture that seems to absorb and reflect the warmth of a summer day.
The vanishing point, located at the end of the street, invites the viewer on a perspectival journey into the unknown, where architectural details fade into luminous glows. It is not merely a representation of a geographical place, but a sensory evocation of urban memory: the reflection of light on the porticos, the warmth of the bricks, and the vibrant silence of the less-traveled streets.
The artwork addresses the theme of urban identity: the city becomes a living organism that communicates through color. The extreme saturation transforms everyday reality into a dreamlike dimension, where the familiarity of a city view becomes a meditation on beauty and the persistence of history.
The artwork is created on an aluminum support: a rigid, flat, and durable surface that enhances the brilliance and depth of the colors. It is the ideal choice for contemporary architectural photography and modern spaces seeking a bold and iconic piece.
