Description of the artwork

In Carousel, Ivano Petrucci explores the depth of portraiture through a vibrant, fragmented lens, where the human figure emerges with intensity from a whirlwind of color and energy. The woman’s face, the calm and magnetic focal point of the composition, is framed by a complex architecture of marks and brushstrokes that seem to float and swirl around it, evoking the ceaseless, joyful movement of an inner carousel.

The artist’s gestural style is expressed through a dense layering of bold primary and vivid tones—deep reds, electric blues, sunny yellows, and fuchsia—which contrast with the starkness of the background, creating an almost sculptural sense of three-dimensionality. The figure’s hands, brought to her face in a gesture of introspection or wonder, guide the viewer’s gaze toward her eyes, a point of silent connection between the artwork and the observer.

The artwork does not merely represent a subject; it captures a state of being: beauty reassembling itself within chaos, identity shining through the multiplicity of experiences. Color does not describe but embodies the complexity of the human soul, transforming the canvas into a field of living energies in perpetual transformation.
