Photographer: Giorgio De Camillis
Title: Contemporary Gorgon
Type: fine art photography
Year: contemporary
Description of the work
In Contemporary Gorgon, Giorgio De Camillis reinterprets the myth of Medusa by blending the iconography of a bronze shield with the presence of a contemporary female body. The Gorgon is no longer a creature to be feared, but a figure of awareness, complexity, and authority.
The composition superimposes the bronze surface, ancient and solemn, onto the photographic figure, alive and contemporary. Veins, imperfections, and the patina of the metal dialogue with the skin, transforming the myth into a reflection on female power and its representation.
