Description of the work
In The Little Warrior, Stefano D'Acunto presents a work of extraordinary evocative power, where the world of childhood meets classical epic. At the center of the composition, a smiling child holds a spear, surrounded by symbols of strength and adventure: a large Spartan helmet at his feet, a dark shield in the background, and a majestic white plush horse that seems to serve as his steed.
The artist plays with the contrast between the solemnity of the warrior elements and the playfulness of contemporary details, such as the colorful constructions and small action figures that populate the scene. The raking light sculpts the child's figure and the textures of the different materials—from the cold metal of the helmet to the softness of the horse's fabric—creating a suspended, almost timeless atmosphere that recalls Baroque portraits reinterpreted through a modern lens.
The work addresses the theme of imagination as a space of power and discovery: the spear is not a weapon of offense, but a symbol of the courage needed to face the path of growth. In this dreamlike setting, play becomes serious, a rite of passage where fantasy protects innocence and transforms everyday reality into a heroic epic.
