Description of the artwork
In this artwork, Baldo Ingrassia explores the theme of travel as a metaphor for existence and inner exploration. Against a deep black background, evoking the unknown or the unconscious, stands an irregular geometric opening that encloses a seascape at dusk, rich in purple shades and golden highlights.
The composition is enriched by golden icons full of symbolic meaning: at the bottom, two stylized boats sail across a chromatic sea, representing the passage of time and the exploration of new horizons. In the center of the landscape, an essential still life suggests the dimension of everyday life and pause, while graphic elements such as the espresso cup and the aerial ladder serve as links between tangible reality and dreamlike vision.
The artwork plays on a complex layering of meanings: the "inside" and the "outside" merge through the opening in the canvas, inviting the viewer to reflect on their own personal destinations. The golden line that runs along the edges of the shapes acts as a trace of light that guides the gaze through this suspended space.
The artwork addresses the theme of collective and individual memory: each symbol is a fragment of a larger story, where travel is not just physical movement, but a conscious return to one's own essence.
