Type: certified artist reproduction
Year: 2024
Description of the artwork
In The Flight of Pulcinella, Claudio Giulianelli places his archetypal figure, the woman wearing a headdress with red spikes, at the center of a scene of celebration and liberation. In her hands, a wicker basket overflows with Commedia dell'Arte masks: Pulcinella, the Doctor, Harlequin, the Captain, and Colombina.
Large yellow ribbons unfurl around the figure, resembling swirls of wind or carnival confetti, transforming the light blue background into a moving stage. The “flight” in the title is symbolic: the masks break free from the basket and become open possibilities, roles waiting to be embodied.
The woman remains solid and serene as the world around her comes alive. The artwork is an ode to the multiplicity of being and to art's ability to free what was enclosed, giving movement and new possibilities to the imagination.
