Description of the artwork

In The Impossible Ascent, the artist presents an image of powerful conceptual simplicity, where the landscape becomes a reflection on the tension between aspiration and reality. The composition is sharply divided between the solidity of the earth and the immensity of the sky.

The foreground is dominated by an uncultivated meadow, a mass of green grass and white flowers that evokes stability and roots. In stark contrast, a long metal ladder rises from the left edge, leaning toward an undefined point beyond the frame. This ladder is not a functional tool, but an archetypal symbol: it represents ambition, the human desire to rise and reach infinity.

The sky, a veiled blue streaked with scattered, light clouds, occupies most of the scene. The ladder does not touch the clouds, nor does it reach a visible destination: it simply ascends, defying the vastness of the void. This incompleteness suggests a journey, not an arrival — an aspiration that remains perpetual.

The artwork addresses the theme of human aspiration: the ladder is the bridge between who we are and who we desire to be. The title itself raises the question of whether the ultimate goal is ever attainable or whether the value lies in the attempt itself.
