Description of the artwork
In La Ballerina, Baldo Ingrassia moves away from traditional figurative representation and constructs the figure through energy and movement. The dancer is not depicted realistically: she emerges from the paint as a luminous presence within a deep, vibrant space.
The dark, almost cosmic background amplifies the gesture of the figure, which appears suspended and twisting, as if caught in the exact moment between balance and falling. The brushstrokes are rapid, textured, and layered; they do not follow the contours but create them. The body emerges from patches of color, as if movement precedes form.
Dance thus becomes a symbol of transformation: the figure does not occupy space, but moves through it. Cool colors – blues, greens, and whites – interact with warm, luminous accents, creating emotional tension and visual rhythm. The artist suggests that identity is not static but constantly evolving, much like the gesture of dance.
The artwork explores the theme of inner expression: the ballerina represents freedom, the search for balance, and the human capacity to transform experience into creative energy.
