Description of the artwork
In The Woman with the Hat, Baldo Ingrassia develops a pictorial narrative suspended between figuration and inner vision. The female figure, seen from behind, crosses a non-realistic space, a mental landscape composed of chromatic currents, a moving sky, and fluid fields of color.
The face is not shown: the identity is not individual but symbolic. The figure becomes a universal presence, an observer immersed in an environment that appears at the same time natural and imagined. The hat and wavy hair suggest a passage, a journey, almost an emotional crossing.
The sky, divided between warm and cold tones, introduces a narrative tension. On one side, sunlight and luminous vortices; on the other, deep blue waves: two dimensions that coexist and dialogue. It is not a physical landscape but a psychological space, in which nature reflects inner states.
The composition guides the eye toward the horizon and suggests continuous movement: the figure is not still, it is going. The work addresses the theme of personal transformation, of passage, and of the search for balance between opposing forces.
The journey represented is not geographical but existential.
