Description of the artwork
In La Fuga di Pulcinella, Claudio Giulianelli reinterprets one of the most archetypal masks of the Italian tradition with contemporary sensitivity. The central figure, a woman with a hieratic bearing wrapped in a carmine-red dress, holds a wicker basket filled with small theatrical masks: Pulcinella, the horse, the clown, the devil, and the doctor.
The gesture is both an offering and a safeguard, as if the protagonist carried with her the fragments of a plural and masked humanity. Behind her opens a golden field under a blue sky streaked with luminous clouds, creating a vast and almost metaphysical space.
The work belongs to Giulianelli's exploration of the theater of existence: the masks do not conceal, but reveal. Each character is a possibility of being, while the guardian-woman becomes an allegory of collective memory and a still-vital tradition.
