Description of the artwork
In L'Amore di Sophia, Claudio Giulianelli immerses the scene in a total and incandescent red, which envelops the figure and the background in a single atmosphere of emotional tension. The male figure turns three-quarters toward the viewer with an ironic, melancholic, and complicit expression.
The jester's pointed headdress blends with the shadow cast on the wall, doubling the figure in a silent double. Two puppets appear in the raised hand: Pulcinella in white with a black mask and a dark figure, perhaps the Devil or Death. The gesture belongs to one who knows every role and every mask.
The title recalls wisdom, from the Greek sophia, and the archetype of one who pursues knowledge through play, theater, and performance. The dominant red makes the work intense, visceral, and deeply personal.
