Description of the artwork

In Libido Contorta, Ivano Petrucci explores one of the deepest and most ambivalent territories of the human experience: desire. Not in its idealized or romantic form, but in its authentic, intertwined, contradictory nature, powerful and fragile at the same time. Two bodies merge in an embrace that is also tension, a union that is also constraint, an attraction that carries with it the weight of what cannot be named.

The composition is dominated by an almost Cubist structure, where the bodies fragment into vertical geometric planes: bands of color descending from above like a rain of disjointed light. Turquoise, ochre, sage green, brick red, and luminous white alternate with a rapid rhythm, constructing the figures not through the natural curve of the flesh, but through the architecture of feeling. The male face, the only element rendered with realistic features, looks to the side with a veiled, aware, but not entirely free expression.

The title reveals what the composition suggests: desire here is not linear, not pure. It is contorted, in the etymological sense of the term, twisted upon itself like the bodies that seek and lose each other simultaneously. The embrace does not console: it squeezes, envelops, holds on.

The artwork addresses the theme of the complexity of eros: libido is not a simple drive, but a field of forces where attraction and fear, possession and surrender, identity and dissolution coexist. Petrucci does not moralize or idealize: he restores the visual truth of what happens when two beings truly draw close.
