Description of the artwork
In The Universe Surrounds Me, Baldo Ingrassia develops a highly gestural composition in which the pictorial space becomes a cosmic dimension. The deep black background suggests infinity, while luminous marks, trajectories, and chromatic fragments traverse the surface like moving particles.
The diagonal lines and geometric shapes evoke coordinates, paths, or orientation tools, as if the artwork represented an inner map rather than a physical place. The spots of color and traces of light recall stars, energetic explosions, or passages of matter through space.
The title introduces an existential reading: the universe is not distant but present, enveloping the individual and interacting with their perception. Painting thus becomes an experience, a visual field in which the viewer is immersed rather than merely a spectator.
