Description of the artwork
In Ladra di libri, Eugenio Franzò creates a scene suspended between reality and memory, where the human figure seems to merge and blend with the material itself. A female figure is depicted in a curled-up, almost fetal position, suggesting a moment of deep reflection or a return to the origins of her being.
The artwork is distinguished by the incisive use of material collage: fragments of corrugated cardboard and strips of raw paper define the surrounding space, creating an architecture of volumes that frames the figure. The contour lines, drawn with quick and decisive strokes, overlap fields of white and powder blue, evoking a sense of fragility and, at the same time, resilience.
The contrast between the porosity of the cardboard and the fluidity of the blue color creates a visual tension that speaks of an identity under construction. The figure is not defined in detail, but emerges as an idea, an emotion that takes shape through the layering of strata, representing the silent dialogue between our outer structure and the delicacy of our inner world.
The artwork addresses the theme of personal identity: the most important encounter does not take place outside, but in the individual's withdrawal into themselves, within a shell made of memory, material, and spirit.
