Photographer: Giorgio De Camillis
Title: Persephone
Type: fine art photography
Year: contemporary
Description of the work
In Persephone, Giorgio De Camillis reinterprets the classical myth through a contemporary, tactile lens. A female figure in profile emerges from layered, time-worn surfaces, evoking the goddess's duality between light and shadow, the world of the living and the underworld.
The delicacy of the subject contrasts with the rough textures of the background, which evoke earth, stone, and the passing of the seasons. The figure appears to be an integral part of the material, transforming the descent into the underworld into a necessary passage toward return and rebirth.
