Description of the artwork
In Portal of Light, Baldo Ingrassia explores the delicate boundary between the physicality of the body and the immensity of the unconscious. A golden, minimalist figure lies at the base of the canvas, representing the human being in their purest and most vulnerable form, as if awaiting a revelation.
Above it, the deep darkness of the canvas is torn open by a luminous opening: a portal that opens onto a sky with the warm tones of sunset and dawn, symbols of endings and rebirth. Around this passage, textured and gestural brushstrokes of green, pink, and blue create a chaotic yet vital frame, evoking the complexity of emotions and the flow of thoughts.
The contrast between the golden, static, and defined silhouette and the explosion of colors in the vision above suggests a yearning for the infinite. The artwork does not depict a physical place, but a spiritual moment: the awakening of awareness that occurs when the individual manages to glimpse the light beyond the shadows of their own existence.
The artwork addresses the theme of transcendence: elevation is achieved not through physical movement, but through the mind's ability to dream and visualize worlds beyond the darkness of the visible.
