Description of the artwork
In Return to Origins, Eugenio Franzò explores the inner space through a landscape that blends with the figures inhabiting it. The artwork is a symbolic representation of an inner dialogue and a confrontation with one's memories.
The landscape is fragmented and layered: warm, orange and green hills overlap with collaged text, suggesting that every place is imbued with stories and memories. A large golden field dominates the scene, separating the clear blue sky from the vital earth.
To the left of center, a group of stylized houses stands on a slope. The plaster of the houses dissolves into white drips that penetrate the ground, symbolizing the fluidity of the home-mind and the instability of the boundaries between the self and the environment.
To the right, two vertical, stylized and ethereal figures face each other. Their garments are made of colorful and striped collage, a kaleidoscope of overlapping experiences and identities. These figures are not distinct people, but different aspects of the self that meet in a moment of awareness and introspection.
The artwork continues the exploration of identity: the encounter is not only between the figures, but between the past (the houses, the texts, the collages) and the individual's present, unified under a clear sky.
