Description of the artwork
In Sic Est, Claudio Giulianelli leads the viewer into a universe suspended between the recovery of Renaissance tradition and an exquisitely dreamlike sensibility. The protagonist is a female figure with a magnetic and melancholic gaze, whose elongated and aristocratic features recall the elegance of Mannerism. The horned headdress, in warm shades of orange and earth tones, transforms the subject into a mythological creature or a theatrical mask, symbolizing an ancient and playful wisdom at the same time.
The composition is dominated by a vibrant chromatic contrast: the warmth of the garments and the hat stands out against a clear blue background, evoking an infinite sky or a metaphysical dimension devoid of temporal references. In her arms, the figure delicately holds a Pulcinella mask, an iconographic element that introduces the theme of duality, hidden identity, and the comedy of life.
The title itself, “This is how it is,” suggests a serene acceptance of destiny or the complexity of the human soul. The artwork plays on the concept of revelation and secrecy: while the woman's face is exposed and vulnerable, the white mask she holds to her chest represents the part of ourselves that we show to the world.
