Description of the artwork

In this work, Baldo Ingrassia delves into the realms of extreme figurative abstraction. Against a deep, dense black background, the silhouette of a face emerges like an apparition, defined not by precise lines, but by a vibrant layering of textured brushstrokes and chromatic marks.

The artist plays with the contrast between the darkness of the unconscious and the light of revelation. Ocher and gold tones, along with flashes of acid green, scratch across the dark surface, suggesting a vitality that pulses beneath the silence of form. The profile is not a portrait, but a boundary: the exact point where identity seeks to manifest itself by transcending the chaos of thoughts.

The artwork represents a journey toward the essential. The choice of earthy, somber colors conveys a sense of mystery and solemnity, transforming the canvas into a metaphysical mirror. The encounter, in this case, is a silent confrontation with one's own darkest part, that deep root from which every form of awareness and creation originates.
