Description of the artwork
In Venezia rigenerata, Eugenio Franzò creates a vision suspended between the sacred and the contemporary. At the center of the composition dominates a solitary female figure, wrapped in an “exaggerated” petticoat — wide, theatrical, almost sculptural — that occupies the space with a presence that is both regal and ironic.
In the background, unmistakable, stands the Basilica of San Marco in Venice: an icon of beauty, power, and historical layering. The woman is neither a tourist nor a devout figure: she is an autonomous entity who inhabits the city with the same authority as its monuments.
The mixed technique — acrylics, tissue paper and India ink on cardboard — gives the artwork a material lightness that contrasts with the density of the subject. Venice is regenerated through the female gaze: not as a postcard, but as a living, inhabited, reinterpreted place.
